Frequently Asked Questions

On iOS: Open HomeFront and tap DNS Filtering. Tap "Enable." iOS will ask you to approve the DNS configuration profile in Settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to allow it. HomeFront uses Apple's Network Extension framework — no VPN tunnel is created.

On macOS: Active DNS filtering is not part of the current launch build. The Mac app currently focuses on health monitoring, file integrity checks, and network awareness while the DNS-enforcement layer remains in development.

On supported iPhone plans, DNS protection checks domain lookups against a local reference database of known problematic and tracking domains across every app on your device — not just your browser.

Note: iOS only allows one network extension at a time. If you use a VPN (NordVPN, Mullvad, etc.), DNS filtering will be paused while the VPN is active. HomeFront will notify you when this happens.

Open HomeFront and go to the Breach Monitor section. Enter the email address you want to check and tap "Check." HomeFront will query the Have I Been Pwned API using k-anonymity, meaning only a partial hash of your email is sent — never the email itself.

If breaches are found, HomeFront will list which breaches included your email and when they occurred. We recommend changing passwords for any affected accounts and enabling two-factor authentication where available.

Pro subscribers get continuous monitoring: HomeFront periodically rechecks your saved emails and notifies you if new breaches are detected.

Your Security Score is a number from 0 to 100 that reflects your device's current security posture. It checks:

  1. Firewall status (enabled or disabled)
  2. FileVault / device encryption status
  3. System Integrity Protection (SIP) on macOS
  4. Gatekeeper status on macOS
  5. Screen lock and passcode configuration
  6. Automatic software updates
  7. DNS protection status on supported iPhone plans

Each factor contributes to the total score. Tap on any individual item to see its current status and how to improve it. A score above 80 generally indicates strong device security.

HomeFront subscriptions are managed through the Apple App Store. To cancel:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, or the App Store on your Mac
  2. Tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions
  3. Find HomeFront and tap it
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription

You can also manage subscriptions directly at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.

Your paid features will remain active until the end of your current billing period. After that, HomeFront reverts to the free tier. No data is lost.

No. HomeFront does not create or use a third-party VPN service. On iPhone, DNS protection uses Apple's native Network Extension APIs and presents the standard system approval flow. On Mac, the current app does not yet ship active DNS filtering. Your internet traffic is never routed through our servers or any third-party proxy.

No. HomeFront collects zero user data. The only network requests are partial SHA-1 hashes sent to Have I Been Pwned for breach checks (using k-anonymity), and reference-data downloads from abuse.ch. Your emails, passwords, results, and security scores never leave your device. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
